Today we took the classroom outside for science. The students went on a soil hunt around the school grounds. They then had the opportunity to look at it under magnifying glasses.
Today we took the classroom outside for science. We went on a rock hunt on the school grounds. The students discovered that the rocks they found had many different properties. They took time to share those properties and their rocks with a partner. We also looked for things made of rocks. They found a ton! They loved being outside and didn't even realize how much they were learning.
Today we learned about the rock cycle. We learned about different characteristics of rocks. We discussed the names of different sizes of rocks. The students then were able to use different size sifters to sift through rocks. They also spend time sorting the rocks by their characteristics after sifting through them. What a fun day!
The students thoroughly enjoyed observing different kinds of rocks under the magnifying classes. They observed both before and after washing them. A huge thanks to our Watch Dog for helping out!
The kiddos had a great time looking at rocks today. We learned about three different types of rocks: basalt, scoria, and tuff. We discussed their properties and looked at the rocks under the magnifying glass. We learned about what a geologist is and what dust is. We ended the lesson with rubbing rocks together to make dust. They loved this part of the lesson!
